Well, if you have been following me on social media, you may have seen me post about this incredible event, Minding Her Business.

Back in February I attended their second event at Riverland Brisbane. I also wrote a blog about it. I remember when I first discovered Minding Her Business on Instagram. It was about a year ago, not long after Bree and I started our adventures with (then) our brand Tobee. I’ve kind of touched on it before, without getting right into it on this blog (I’ll save that for another time), Bree and I initially started Tobee with the passion to promote self-confidence, self-love with the hope to empower and inspire those around us. We came across the page Minding Her Business and really wanted to attend their first event in August last year. Unfortunately work commitments had us both overseas on the day of the event.

As soon as I started following, I become so intrigued with the MHB brand, I didn’t really know too much about who was behind the brand. It wasn’t until November last year, I held a surprise party for one of my girlfriends and met one of the Founders, Katie Stevens. Somehow it all clicked and we got talking about MHB and I continued to follow their journey and patiently wait for them to release another event date.

Fast forward to February, to their second event. I was so excited that I actually had the day available to be able to attend. What an event that was! Since then, they have had another SELL OUT event on the Gold Coast in April as well as a Minding Their Business for men and women at Paw Paw Café in Brisbane.

Sunday just gone, they took MHB interstate to Sydney held at Mrs Sippy in Double Bay. This, being their 5th SELL OUT with over 200 amazing women attending. The Headline speaker was a lady of many talents, all round boss babe, Founder of Sweaty Betty PR, Social Union, Ministry of Talent, Celebrity Apprentice contestant (2013) and Author, the PR Queen, Roxy Jacenko! International dating and relationship coach from We Date, Renee Slansky spoke about relationships and dating. There was an empowerment panel of guest speakers including, Co-Founder and CEO of The Daily Edited, Alyce Tran. Health and fitness, holistic living Influencer and You Tuber, Georgie Stevenson and business coach with successful companies across Australia and Asia in finance and property and educating others on all things finance, property and business, Ayda Shabanzadeh.

Every MHB event I go to, I always come out feeling so empowered and motivated! Every event just gets better and better. I had no doubt that this would be another successful event. This time, I was helping behind the scenes, for my own personal experience, but also because after forming friendships with Katie and Dani (founders), of course a good friend puts up their hand to help. I truly believe in their brand and their passion behind it and I was lucky enough to help behind the scenes a little bit on this event, and having some experience in events myself, I know how challenging it is and how busy you are to get your event to perfection. But being able to help with this event, even just the set up and behind the scenes on the day, I have so much respect for the girls and hats off to them, because they do these events every so often, and when they aren’t running the events, they’re planning them and to see how hard they work and how dedicated they are to their brand is so inspirational. Five SELL OUT events, one interstate with over 200 like-minded women in the room and scoring Roxy Jacenko as headline guest speaker, all in under 12 months! I am so so proud of both Katie and Dani as Founders of this amazing community and as my friends.

Let's talk about PR Queen, Roxy Jacenko. She is controversial, an absolute BOSS BABE and fierce AF! Roxy is a force to be reckoned with. Someone I admire the absolute f**k out of. She is hilarious AF and I love how down to earth and REAL she is, I also love that she drops the F bomb like there is no tomorrow! At just 24 years of age, Roxy started her PR company, Sweaty Betty. With just one year in Public Relations work experience behind her, and having her office at her kitchen table at her mum's house with just a fax machine and a Blackberry phone. This mother of two has a successful career, however Roxy is also human. Like you and me, she has faced some ups and downs. For Roxy, 2016 was her shittest time, and you know what? She is open about it and tells it how it is. As Roxy said to us all on Sunday, she is a mother of two and she wanted to be as normal as possible during these shitty times, so that her children, Pixie and Hunter didn't worry or feel the stress.

Back to Roxy's work life. Her words of encouragement are something I definitely needed to hear, given I've just had to defer University (due to unforeseen circumstances).

"The most important thing is, it's not about the smarts, it's the dedication, it's the drive, the passion and persistence."

I resonate with this so much, because I have never really been one for study, however when I am passionate about something, I will give it 200%. I decided to study my Bachelor of Media and Communications majoring in Public Relations, however shit happens in life, and my shsit led me to defer. However, now, after Sunday, I am re-thinking... Do I need to go spend tonnes of money for this paper certificate, or can I just learn on the job? After all, Roxy herself said, "You'll learn on the job."

After hearing Roxy speak at Minding Her Business, I am much more motivated now to do all I need to, to pursue a career I know I will succeed in. I may not have the qualifications, and I may not ever get them, but I do have experience and the passion, and I will continue to grow my experience. I believe you can never stop learning.

"Don't feel sorry for yourself. If you need, cry in the shower, not in the office." - Roxy Jacenko

Can I just say, I LOVE how brutally honest this girl is. We made the connection that we are both of the Serbian background, which explains why we are similar in the sense that we are both sassy AF, headstrong and give no f**ks. Roxy mentioned how she always gets described as confident, which is the image she portrays, and we assume she is quite the extravert, when in fact, she is the opposite. Another few quotes I love, "It's way easier to ask for forgiveness than asking to do something." This was regarding taking risks, and breaking rules. This particular one, "Don't write to-do lists. Just do the f**king jobs!" I personally am a huge list writer, but also a do-er. I have to write things down or I forget, but the lifestyle I have where I am not really in routine as such, I find it helps to write them down, but this quote is amazing, because I am a huge believer of if you want something done right, do it yourself. Roxy touched on this, it's sometimes easier to go to Sally and ask/tell her something instead of going through your Assistant Susan.

I took away a lot from this day. I took away a new respect for Katie and Dani to see the behind the scenes of what goes on and how hard they work to get the event perfect. As always, I take away new friends. I take away experience and more knowledge. As always I take away motivation. I leave every MHB event feeling inspired, motivated and empowered. It was such an honour to meet all of the like-minded women who attended on Sunday and especially, Roxy Jacenko.

A quote Roxy shared that resonates with me the most is;

"Be determined, be persistent. Don't take no for an answer." - Roxy Jacenko

This is something that I practise in day to day life. I am such a driven and strong willed woman. These events, just remind me I can be better than I was yesterday.

Minding Her Business is all about getting out of your comfort zone.

“Connect - Collaborate - Create.” - Minding Her Business

Come alone, meet new people and have an amazing time meeting like-minded women in business. You don't even have to be a business owner or in the social media world, even if you're just new to the area, or want to meet new like-minded people. You never know what opportunities will arise. If you haven't attended this event, you need to not put it on your to-do list, but just f**king do it!

Health and fitness influencer, Georgie Stevenson vlogged the event, you can watch here to get a little more insight into how the day went and what the empowerment panel had to say.

See you at the next MHB event ;)
