Packing tips 101

Being a gal who pretty much lives out of a suitcase, you would think I am kinda a pro by now when it comes to packing.
The amount of travel I do (for work mostly), my days at home are pretty much spent packing, unpacking and washing… And then packing again. I tend to stick to my basics and all seasons year round and of course a LBD with a pair of heels.
For me, personally, I actually really dislike packing. For an organised person (and with OCD), when it comes to packing, I am not always organised and at times, I can leave it to the last minute. However, I generally try and keep most of my stuff for work trips, in the suitcase ready to go (which is not ideal for a one bedroom apartment).
The trick is to not over pack. Which... I haven’t quite mastered yet. Packing lightly is not my strongest forte. I will always have basics in there; a basic tee, maybe two or three different colours (black, white or grey), a basic long sleeve and cami (black and white), one pair of denim jeans, a pair of denim shorts and a skirt. Always pack a cardigan and a jacket or coat, or both (or your whole wardrobe - see my problem?). Always pack enough underwear, pack both a nude and black bra. Also, a cute summer dress or two, gym gear (of course), one pair of heels, a LBD, a denim dress and of course, white canvas shoes that are comfy and casual but can get you through a day of sight-seeing wearing.
I have my Kmart white canvas shoes that get me by just fine and the best thing is, they’re $7!! My go to outfit for S/S when travelling or on work trips is a denim dress just from H&M with my white canvas shoes from Kmart and my favourite bag for travelling is my Longchamp tote bag. It goes with everything and folds down to pack nicely and neatly in your suitcase or carry on. The denim dress is great for exploring during the day and then to doll up for the night, chuck on some nude or black heels (probably Tony Bianco, knowing my shoe collection) and you’re good to go!
When it comes to toiletries, always have your travel pack for carry on and your extra in your luggage. Always pack moisturiser (body and face), toothbrush and toothpaste and a gel whitening pen (I use one from Icewhiteteeth - it's the best and so good to travel with). My toiletry bags are from Sephora they are for most of my LAGS (liquids, gels and aerosols) and are TSA friendly. My makeup bags are so practical and fit so well, they're from The Daily Edited.
Now the great debate; kinda like toilet paper debate, scrunch or fold, do you roll or fold flat?
I have tried both. My Dad always said rolling would be better, you can fit more in! Well, I have tried it and I don’t think you can. It also means you have to iron everything more than you would if it was just folded. I tend to flatten everything as flat as possible. I actually have a great suitcase. One side holds a secure area for clothes, the other for shoes, accessories and toiletries. It's the hard case by American Tourister. It’s the perfect suitcase for travel and the lock also is TSA approved.
For myself, and others who travel pretty much every week, I literally leave my suitcase open in a spare room, I come home; unpack, wash and pack again! I tend to leave my favourite outfits at home and pack just basics with the odd random nice Camilla or something I can doll up. As for jewellery, I tend to take a watch and simple earrings and my cute gold necklace with my initial on it.
My job involves travel and living out of a suitcase, which can be taxing, but I love it and wouldn't have it any other way. I hope that this helps you with your packing or at least gives you an insight to how I pack.
Happy travelling!
Love,
D x
